Counter Salesman

Overall, a counter salesman plays a crucial role in providing excellent customer service, driving sales, and maintaining the smooth operation of the Branch. Strong communication skills, product knowledge, sales acumen, and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.

Key Performance Areas

  1. Sales
  • Sell Quality Tyres range of products over the counter at a profit.
  • Advice customer on benefits and product choice.
  • Complete stock-out sheets.
  • Invoice products on a computer including price and discount.
  • Instruct fitters to execute the job as required by the customer.
  • Process payment method.
  • Sell other services e.g., wheel alignment and balancing.
  • Maintain float at counter.
  • Identify new prospects in town / city.
  • Phone customers regularly.
  • Make offers and quote for approval by Branch Manager.
  • Visit or arrange a visit by a Sales Representative / Branch Manager.
  • Distribute pamphlets.
  • Advertise products.
  1. Customer Retention
  • Remember our regulars.
  • Contact companies in town.
  • Know what the competition offers.
  • Know market related issues and trends.
  • Know the going prices and discounts.
  • Inform customers of new services and products.
  • Make Phone calls B-Accounts in town.
  • Ensure such a list exists.
  • Make regular offers to attract business as part of the call cycle.
  • Advice the Branch Manager regarding advertising.
  1. General Administration
  • Ensure POD’s signed and handed to administration.
  • Present monthly report on performance and activities.
  • Prepare quotes and proposals for Branch Managers approval.
  • Complete stock-outs.
  • Complete BFSA and other claim cards.
  • Administer float.
  • See to breakdown documentation and the organization thereof.
  • Ensure that Wheel aligners, wheel balancers, low level lifts, tools, etc. are inspected on daily basis.
  • Ensure that Fitting area is clean and all equipment work.
  • Ensure that all POD’s stock outs are handed in correctly, signed etc.
  • Ensure that Stock out is completed in full according to company policy.
  • Prepare monthly report on time and ensure that it contains valuable info (sales, comp movements, etc.).
  • Ensure that BFSA satisfied with STD of claims.
  • Ensure that regular quotes and proposals that are signed and approved by the Branch Manager exist.
  • Ensure there is no shortages on float.
  • Ensure breakdowns always handled effectively.
  • Keep a list of regular customers.
  • Keep yourself abreast about market trends.
  • Research Market trends on the Bridgestone website
  • Keep Inspection records.
  • Ensure that the Branch is in an acceptable state.
  • Conduct performance Appraisal every quarter of the year.
  • Ensure stock outs & BFSA
  • Ensure claims are completed correctly.
  1. Health & Safety
  • Adhere to Health & Safety standards in the workplace and does not endanger other parties.
  • Comply with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Ensure Personal Safety Equipment and facilities provided by the company are in good and clean condition.

  • Undertake all reasonable requests and instructions, given verbally or in writing which fall within the parameters of this job.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric & relevant certificate
  • Computer literacy
  • 2 years relevant experience in a similar role
