POSITION DESCRIPTION

Purpose of the role:

In delevering on our mission, we are committed to ensuring compliance with applicable data privacy laws and that our customer data is protected. To this end, we have created the role of Data Protection Office - Bridgestone West. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, overseeing, advancing and ensuring compliance with a West privacy program for the Bridgestone strategic business units (“SBU”) in the “West.”  This territory covers Bridgestone’s tyre operations (manufacturing, wholesale and retail) in the Americas (“BSAM”) as well as in Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa (“BSEMIA”) and BMS, including all their subsidiaries. In addition, you will manage a team of dedicated privacy resources in each of these SBUs to guide and oversee all data privacy activities in the territory.

 

 

you will be based in either Brussels, Belgium or Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and will liaise closely with Senior Management of the SBUs, their business leaders and their teams, as well as information security teammates as you promote a culture of data protection compliance throughout the organisation.

 

You will report to the [Chief Legal & Risk Officer of BSEMIA] with a strong dotted line to the [Sr Vice-President, General Counsel North & Latin America].

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your main responsibilities are a combination of strategic program development and management, as well as hands-on agile and pragmatic business support and consist primarily of the following:

 

  • Develop, implement and continuously improve a data privacy management program across the three SBUs and drive an integrated approach where possible.
  • Drive strategic/tactical plans, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with data protection laws in each SBU, including the development of a privacy governance framework to ensure that data is managed in compliance with relevant privacy laws.
  • Develop and implement protocols and solutions for monitoring compliance with data protection laws and policies in each SBU.
  • With the support of the data privacy team, serve as main point of contact and subject matter expert for business units and functional groups in the West for issues related to data privacy. 
  • Set up and manage an awareness-raising and training program to deliver compliance and foster a culture of data protection compliance in each SBU.
  • Monitoring changes and developments in applicable privacy laws; educating the organization on such developments and proactively adapting privacy program as needed to maintain compliance.
  • Collaborating with relevant functional groups, including Corporate Security and Information Security functions, to develop and implement data privacy & security awareness programs and incident management program including security breach response protocols, impact assessments, collection & processing of data privacy complaints, data asset record keeping, responding to subject access requests (SARs), etc. 
  • Communicate with regulatory authorities as relevant.
  • Participate in and provide reports to Global Risk Committee.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications

  • Solid knowledge of the data protection legal frameworks
  • Recognized qualifications in Data Protection (CIPP/E or similar GDPR DPO certification). Additional CIPM, CIPT and CIPP/US certifications are an advantage.
  • Relevant university degree (e.g., IT or law)
  • 15 years of relevant experience of which no less than 10 in a multinational cross-cultural organisation
  • No less than 5 years experience in developing, documenting, communicating and rolling out a privacy program in multiple jurisdictions, preferably also covering North America
  • Understanding of global privacy law in relation to all business functions in manufacturing and/or services industries
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity risks and other information security standards; prior PCI DSS is a plus
  • Strong collaboration, leadership and influencing skills and ability to manage cross-functional projects
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work with peers and senior management, inspiring trust and confidence
  • Good organizing and coordinating skills
  • ability to effectively communicate to all levels of an organization.
  • Fluent professional English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of one or more main European languages is a significant plus
  • High degree of independence, with attention to detail
