Job description
We are looking for a position as an R&D Engineer for Technology Validation group within Material Innovation and Development organization.
The R&D engineer will lead efforts to validate tire technologies, including new constructions, new reinforcing materials, new compounds, as well as add-on and sensing technologies, for Bridgestone consumer products, in line with Product Performance RoadMap and with Corporate Sustainability Roadmap.
Specifically, he/she will work on new technologies development, proposing/supporting the identification of new materials, constructions and processes, realizing virtual and physical tires’ prototypes for performances assessment, leading FMEA preparation, designing new testing procedures, deriving/executing proper validation plan and upon positive analysis of all tests, release technologies to next gate for plants’ introduction.
Core responsibilities and working relations
Support scouting, design and development of new tire technologies.
Lead FMEA activity, derive and execute new technology validation plans by mean of both empiric (lab and on-tire testing) and virtual tire approach.
Investigate tire failure mode, understand mechanisms, identify and validate countermeasures.
Design and validate new testing methods aimed to replicate specific tire failure modes.
Prepare tire virtual models and perform FEM advanced analysis, including identification of ad-hoc metrics and editing of new scripts/codes for specific analysis.
Organization and management of Design Review meetings/presentations to involved stakeholders/management;
Project planning, monitoring and execution;
Work effectively with R&D researchers, technicians, and management of Bridgestone Technical Center Europe, actively taking part to R&D cross-functional teams;
Collaborate with Bridgestone Corporate Functions, Bridgestone America and Bridgestone Japan, Bridgestone EMIA manufacturing plants;
Work and interact with Bridgestone external partners such as academia, research institutes and lab equipment providers.
Job Requirements
Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Materials Engineering.
Experience in operation and troubleshooting of FEM simulation software, preferably Abaqus and Hypermesh
Digital mindset : solid knowledge of MS Office suite and programming language (Matlab and Python appreciated plus)
Analytical skill, Logic Thinking, Problem solving and strong mechanism understanding mindset.
Willingness to perform accurate analysis on worn-out tires, either after indoor/outdoor test or after market exposure
Curiosity, think-out-of-the-box mindset, willingness to learn from new and often unprecedented technical challenges.
Fluency in written and spoken English
Position is based at the Technical Center in Rome; Salary and position will be tailored according to the profile.
