R&D Virtualization – Engineer Digital Twin


Purpose and Content of the Role

  • Contributing to the virtualization of R&D processes through the adoption of Digital Twin concept
  • Active involvement in the creation and development of a fully virtual E2E tire development solution, supporting tire layout design and performance predictions
  • Supporting Project Engineers in the adoption and usage of the developed solutions, gathering feedback and requirements to be routed in the solution development process.
  • Working strictly in contact with other team-mates in charge of Digital Engineering Solutions (FE Analysts \ Data Scientists \ Digital Twin Engineers \ Real-time and Vehicle Modelling Engineers)

Responsibilities / Main Tasks
The candidate will be required to:

  • Cooperate with other Bridgestone Technical Centers worldwide, to:
  • Validate \ consolidate \ integrate FE analysis capabilities of the Technical Center 
  • Improve and maintain the tire geometry engine following expectations and future technologies
  • Develop backend and frontend software through a code review process
  • Cooperate with other functions in other Bridgestone Technical Centers worldwide, in order to:

              - make the FE technologies broadly available and easy to use for all stakeholders and \ or final users
              - validate implemented simulations by comparing their outcomes with relevant experimental results

              - gather new functionalities needs, both in terms of tire modeling capabilities and physics-based performance prediction
              - support the tools usage, filing bugs  and actively working for their resolution
              - gather feedback from solutions usage and take appropriate action
              - integrate the E2E tire development platform with other IT systems

  • Cooperate with other Bridgestone Technical Centers (i.e., Japan and US), as well as other business functions in Bridgestone EMIA Unit, to effectively share information, build common strategies and exploit synergies to enhance the simulation and modelling capabilities of R&D area

Competences & Skills

  • Analytical Skills \ Creativity

              - Possessing a very good knowledge of mechanics, paired with a proven problem-solving attitude
              - Proactive in standardizing and automating processes for a large-scale usage proposing cutting edge technologies

  • Attitude

              - Open-minded, independent and able to create links with other functions
              - Ready to provide the rationale underlying his \ her choices of a particular solution
              - Results and customer-driven approach

  • Technical Background

              - Strong knowledge of Continuum Mechanics (Solid Mechanics, Applied and Theoretical)
              - Finite Element Theory (Implicit and Explicit Solvers – Simulia Abaqus is an asset, MSC Nastran is a plus)
              - Finite Element pre-processors knowledge is an asset (e.g. Hypermesh)
              - Strong knowledge of Objective Oriented Programming (Python coding at least)
              - Knowledge of Tire Mechanics is a plus
              - Fortran Routines Scripting is a plus 
              - Atlassian suite is a plus
              - MS Office Suite (Excel and Power Point at least)

  • Other Skills

              - Very Good written and verbal communication in English
              - Ability to prepare and execute both technical and executive presentations and ready to represent his \ her argumentations in front of a diverse and multicultural audience
              - Ability to work in an Agile development process
              - Ability to carry on his \ her tasks autonomously
              - Proactivity in providing new ideas on how to apply his \ her capabilities in Bridgestone environment
              - Willingness to continuously learn (in a kaizen \ continuous improvement approach)

Education \ Experience

  • Minimum MS degree in Mechanical \ Aerospace Engineering (or similar degrees in Industrial Area)
  • Minimum 1-year working experience in similar roles
  • Tire industry experience \ knowledge is a plus
