R&D Engineer - Reinforcing Material Development and Approval

Job Description
Joining a dynamic and motivated Engineer Applied Case Technology Team within MID - Material Innovation and Development department, the R&D engineer will lead efforts to realize and validate new reinforcing materials for Bridgestone consumer and commercial products, in line with Product Performance RoadMap and with Corporate Sustainability Roadmap.
Specifically, he/she will work on new reinforcing material/new technologies development in both tire crown and carcass areas, identifying and designing new materials and constructions also through Open Innovation projects with Bridgestone partners and Academia, realizing virtual and prototypal tires, performing validation plan, analyzing test results and, finally, releasing technology to Tire Product Development and to industrialization in manufacturing plant upon providing proper confidence on its reliability/robustness.
In addition he/she will strongly contribute to corporate strategy for the identification and approval of new sources to guarantee new materials availability, to support procurement flexibility and business sustainability.
Core responsibilities and working relations:
- Design, development and experimental validation in lab and on tire of new crown & carcass reinforcing materials through Stage and Gate process to comply with product performance and sustainability roadmap and market requirements;
- Investigation on tire failure mode, mechanism understanding and data analysis;
- Organization and management of Design Review meetings/presentations to involved stakeholders/management;
- Work and interact deeply with suppliers and have contacts with Bridgestone external partners such as academia and lab equipment providers;
- Approval of new suppliers of existing Reinforcing Materials, following evaluation procedures which include extensive laboratory testing campaign, comprehensive tire validation and processability trials in tire plants;
- Project planning, monitoring and execution;
- Work effectively with R&D researchers, technicians, and management of Bridgestone Technical Center Europe, actively taking part to R&D cross-functional teams;
- Collaborate with Bridgestone Corporate Functions, Bridgestone America and Bridgestone Japan, Bridgestone EMIA manufacturing plants;
Job requirements:
- Master Degree in Materials, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering. PhD is appreciated added value; Previous experience in Textile fibers, steel materials and composite materials is also an added value.
- Analytical skills, Logic Thinking, Problem solving and mechanism understanding mindset;
- Logic Thinking, attitude to learn and team-working with strong communication skills;
- Driven to results and synthesis oriented, motivated, agile, collaborative;
- Digital mindset: solid knowledge of MS Office package; Previous experience with FEA commercial software knowledge is an added valued;
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
Position is based at the Technical Center in Rome; Salary and position will be tailored according to the profile.
