POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Purpose

Joining a dynamic and motivated materials innovation development team, the R&D materials researcher will lead efforts to design, develop and validate innovative materials for the future Bridgestone products.

The candidate will play a key role in the development and implementation of new materials through his/her solid knowledge of Chemistry and Material Science, covering a wide range of activities from laboratory-based chemical/physical characterization, up-to prototype evaluation.

Core Responsibility & Working Relationship

  • Design, development and validation of new materials (with emphasis on rubber chemicals) providing proposals, solutions and original ideas along with the Raw Material Development team and implementing new solutions in the daily activities.
  • 1Support and collaborate with the R&D laboratory for implementation of most advanced Chemical / Physical techniques through new methodology development.
  • Promote Open Innovation projects with Bridgestone partners (suppliers, startups, research associates) & academia and launch new technologies.
  • Work effectively with R&D researchers, staff, technicians, and management of Bridgestone EMIA Technical Center, actively taking part in R&D cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with Bridgestone Corporate Functions, Bridgestone America and Bridgestone Japan and Bridgestone Europe manufacturing plants.
  • Represent Bridgestone in conferences and workshops with external partners.

Job requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or any other related field of study is preferable.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a background in rubber additives and with prior experience in the chemical/tire industry.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in oxidation/degradation of rubber chemicals and generation of new molecules.
  • Experience with leading and/or participating in technical projects between industry and academia.
  • Goal-oriented, motivated, creative and collaborative. Able to work individually and as a part of a team.
  • Strong communications skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Ability to adapt communication style and approach to suit different audiences and situations, ensuring messages are understood and well-received.
  • Digital mindset.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
