Job Purpose

We are looking for a Process Technologist , reporting directly to the Senior Process Technologist.

This is a Local role, based in Brits and will be responsible for the Management and control of PSR building areas with regards to technical aspects of these areas. Ensure that all specifications and technical documentation are controlled and issued timeously and are correct. Improve building processes and ensure smooth operation.

Manage and control scrap, buff and rework to ensure targets are met. Lead scrap analysis as well as buff and rework analysis and investigation. Lead scrap feedback sessions and meetings. Play a pertinent roll in the CFT for building. Ensure that technical specs and standards are adhere to and invest in training activities to ensure that there is a good understanding of these spec and standards.

Ensure loss ratio and VOR targets are met. Drive technical mastery in the technical team as well as on the shop floor. Ensure all new development, capex projects, zero loss projects that is relevant meet the targeted time and outcome as set in the project.

Responsibilities:

1. Loss ratio and VOR below budget and target.:

• Ensure daily scrap meeting and bi-weekly feedback to MTDS are at high efficiency and effectiveness. All preparation , root cause analysis and investigation are done and set in data and presentation format. Daily follow up on scrap, buff & rework items from building and curing. Ensure zero loss projects to reduce LR and VOR are completed timeously and are effective.

2. Development of new product and processes as well as zero loss projects to be within target timeline.

• Develop conspicuous standards.
• Implementations of One Point Lessons Development of controls to improve production, quality and efficiency and reduce downtime in processes.
• Development and upgrading of equipment in conjunction with Engineering to improve processing efficiency, cost effectiveness involving total line production.
• New product development.
• Develop specification on time and 100% accurate to ensure effective SOP.
• Ensure that all above are done and controlled within the timespan of each project or development. Create the needed platform to be able to follow above.      

3. Assistance and participation to CFT Activities to ensure target are met.

• Investigation and analysis of problems.
• Implementation of Kaizens.
• Set up of IIP and ensure that it is followed and countermeasures are implemented.
• Do Kokai watches, gemba.
• Presentation of CFT activities/DDAC
• 5S walkthrough. Discuss in CFT the targets for OEE and how technical department can assist in achieving these targets.

4. Quality improvement activities

• Ensure that the following are met, controlled and documented :
• Develop process PFMEA, Control Plan(assist QS) and Process flow for building and curing machines.
• Conduct internal audits to evaluate process and provide assistance for improvement – official feedback to team must be done and recorded.

5. Problem Solving

• Trouble shooting on the factory floor, and on the floor decisions to help with problem solving and effectiveness.
• Miss-production detection.
• Ensure disposition of scrap material.
• Inspect off-spec material and issue deviation for use.

6. Training

• Subordinate and EO training on standards and specifications to be managed and controlled and assisted with.

7. To ensure full and efficient utilization of plant and equipment in order to produce the required units at the correct quality, cost, time and in a safe manner.

• The following must be managed , controlled and ensured : Confirmation of quality gates.
• Ensure adherence to quality/technical/process standards.
• Assist quality improvement activities.
• Root cause analysis with regard to non-conforming components.
• Assistance in analysing recurrence of Quality/Process concerns.

8. To ensure all subordinates are trained to an adequate level of skill that will enable them to attain the required level of quality and productivity.

• Induction to quality/process principles.
• Competency assessments of subordinate & Foreman/EO with regards to quality/process requirements. Training standards.

9. Ensure Process and product capability.

• Process and Product checks and follow up of corrective actions.
• Product and process capabilities and quality.
• Implement and maintain OE specific customer requirements and adherence to plant specifications and standards.

10. Assist in Quality management systems are implemented and maintained on a continuous basis to ensure compliance to OEM process and product requirements.

• ISO 9001 2015, IATF16949:2016,VDA 6.3-Quality management System.
• Implementation and maintenance of Quality Core Tools(QMP) in respective departments.

11. Plan, develop and maintain Quality/Process improvement within building and curing.

• Process improvements that increases productivity and reduces Loss ratio and VOR. Continued improvements to improve process capability and quality of tires. Development of new product within the planned timeline. The managing, control, teaching and development of the subordinates to reach set KPI target. Ensure that all month end targets are met and documented in the month end reports.

Education: 

• 3 years experience in the Tyre industry and have good knowledge of extrusion/ 5 years experience in the manufacturing industry.
• ND Polymer Technology/BSc. Chem Eng.
• Quality related qualifications.
• Good knowledge of quality standards and systems.
