Tire Certification Engineer

 

 

Job Purpose

 

Tire Certification Engineer has the role to manage all the aspects of the product homologation/certification in the specific assigned area of competency inside the Tire Certification group..

The aim of his/her position, with the support of Tire Certification Coordinator, is to ensure that all activities are carried out in timely manner and with proper level of accuracy, in order to satisfy BSEMEA internal needs in terms of products launch and assure compliance with all applicable requirements (Bridgestone’s, customer and regulation). In case of any concern, the engineer has to timely flag the issue to the Tire Certification Coordinator who will take appropriate measures.

He/she has to assure smooth communications among all the involved functions along the product lifecycle in order to prevent potential issues along the value chain (inside and outside the organization).

The position is based in Italy, Castel Romano (Rome) at Tech Center Europe reporting to Head of System & Compliance Quality from administrative perspective and to the Tire Certification coordinator for the technical aspects. 

Please note that the position is offered under a fixed-term contract. 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Manage new products certification activities

Tire Certification engineer has to manage inputs received from different functions (e.g., Product planning, R&D, BEOE) through the group coordinator into a certification plan. He/she has to consolidate the list of products to be homologated/certified falling into the area of direct responsibility and plan the necessary activities to achieve the target.

This includes:

  • define the test plan to be carried out in TCE and/or plant,
  • get in contact with external authorities to apply for the required documents,
  • ensure activities are completed as per plan and inform all involved functions in case of issues,
  • get certificates and distribute to the appropriate functions,
  • ensure all the documents are available in the certification database.

 

  1. Spec approval

Verify specs prepared by R&D contain all necessary information to plan product certification activities and formally validate the spec in the TMCCL system.

 

  1. Manage plant certification activities

Tire Certification engineer has to ensure activities are carried out in line with defined systems in all BSEMEA Locations. The team has to plan, coordinate and manage the periodical audits carried out by regulation authorities (e.g., Inmetro, CCC, SNI…) in TCE and/or plants.

 

  1. Implementation of new/modified regulations

Tire Certification engineer, with the support of Tire Certification coordinator and S&R team, has to manage the implementation in BSEMEA of new and/or modified regulations. Has to study the regulation requirements (new or revised) and to plan actions aimed to the creation of a system which ensure the compliance Vs. regulation.

Pertinent standards have to be created and/or upgraded to describe the implemented system and ensure that all functions involved have the necessary info to carry out the required activities.

 

  1. Export compliance

Tire Certification team has the responsibility to verify that a certain product is suitable for export in a defined country following the request coming from BS Product planning / LSCM functions or to respond to an OEM need. The team has to verify that in terms of plant production, sidewall marking and product content, the IPC is suitable for the export.

Qulifications & Experience Required

 

Education, Master, other certification:

  • University degree in engineering

 

 

Experience:

 

The incumbent shall have consolidated minimum three years working experience (preferably in the automotive industry: OEM or  Tier 1 /Tier 2 supplier) in product development or quality assurance.

 

 

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge on Tire design and technology
  • Basic knowledge on tire manufacturing process and product evaluation
  • Basic knowledge of quality management system (e.g. ISO 9001, IATF 16949, VDA 6.3)
  • Basic Knowledge of descriptive statistics and basic Quality tools (such as problem solving, 5 why, Fishbone analysis, etc...)

 

 

Languages Skills:

 

English: fluent

 

 

Soft/Behavioral Skills

  • The position requires high customer focus and customer oriented mindset with excellent problem solving, negotiation and communication skills to properly coordinate activities between R&D, Quality Management and BS functions (including headquarter and manufacturing plants).
  • Positive mindset and win-win approach will be key ingredient for the success in this role, in order to translate daily challenges in new business opportunities.
  • The incumbent must be able to understand problems from customer perspective and be able to manage them with self-confidence and autonomy.
  • The position requires a structured and disciplined working approach in order to successfully manage daily work, special projects and critical situations.

 

 

Travel:

 

The position requires limited travelling (mainly in Europe) at Bridgestone facilities and regulation authorities.
