R&D Applied Researcher - Tire Noise Engineer
About the Role
Job Purpose
We are looking for a Position as Tire Noise Engineer, who will join the dynamic and motivated Team of Contact Technologies and West Tire Research, part of West Tools & Methods Organization, within Bridgestone West Research & Development.
This is a BSEMEA role, based in Rome, Italy. Salary will be tailored accordingly with the Profile.
The Team - Contact Technologies is a Team of applied researchers in the field of Contact Mechanics (Wear and Friction) and NVH (Noise and Vibrations) whose main scope is advanced tire design for future products, leveraging on strong engineering fundamentals and applying latest technologies both in the field of tire and vehicle simulations and testing, supporting the development of new tools & methods as well.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the technological and methodological level up in the field of Tire Noise, both Air-Borne and Structure Borne; Contribute to the Technology Roadmaps for new generation products, with Tire and Vehicle Noise as key performances to care, by design insights based and mechanisms understanding, as individual contributor but mostly in cross functional teams.
Deliverables – Number of projects gates achieved as per program list milestones, number of know-how findings and patents applications upon pertinent domain, number of completed trainings as per agreed development plan.
Specific Accountabilities:

- Leveraging on FEM Full Pattern Tire and Pattern Element Simulations and on deep experimental analyses, contribute to ideation of design insights for improving tire noise of new products, without compromising other performances like wet, wear, snow.
- Design, introduce, enhance and support introduction of new test methods for tire noise, both in Outdoor and Indoor facilities, for consumer and commercial tires,
- Design, introduce, enhance and support introduction of new numerical/analytical tools for tire and vehicle noise,
Qualifications & Experience Required
Education, Master, other certification:
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering; Aeronautical, aerospace, material engineering are suited alternatives,
- PhD is an appreciated added value,
- Master Thesis in the field of automotive and/or tire engineering is an appreciated added value,
Technical Skills:
- Basic knowledge and/or previous experience in the field of tire design and development is an appreciated added value,
- Strong foundation in acoustics and vibrations first principles, coupled with robust and sound engineering knowledge and judgment.
- Proven track record of engineering problem-solving, utilizing first principles to resolve complex problems, and strong self-motivation to proactively initiate solutions.
- Ability to develop research and engineering roadmaps for planning and addressing the company's long-term problems and challenges
- Background in experimental and physical NVH methods and techniques
- Proficiency in computational methods, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as MATLAB and Python
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively engage multiple stakeholders, explain complex NVH topics, and serve as a mentor
