ABOUT THE ROLE

Job Purpose
Joining a dynamic and motivated materials innovation development team, the R&D materials researcher will lead efforts to design, develop and validate materials for the future Bridgestone products. This role involves identifying, evaluating, and qualifying raw materials that meet specific technical requirements for production. The Raw Materials Chemist will work closely with the R&D, quality, and production teams to ensure raw materials meet performance, quality, and compliance standards while optimizing material costs and availability. The candidate will play a key role in the development and implementation of new and alternative materials through his/her solid knowledge of Chemistry and Material Science, covering a wide range of activities from laboratory-based chemical/physical characterization, up-to prototype evaluation. 


Responsibilities:

•    Material Selection & Evaluation: Analyze and select raw materials based on technical specifications, performance criteria, and suitability for product development and manufacturing processes.
•    Supplier Technical Evaluation: Collaborate with suppliers to ensure the raw materials meet the required technical standards and specifications. Conduct supplier assessments and audits, focusing on material quality, reliability, and innovation.
•    Material Testing & Validation: Coordinate testing and validation of raw materials in collaboration with the R&D and quality control teams to ensure materials meet or exceed performance and safety requirements.
•    Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain technical documentation, including material specifications, testing reports, and certifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
•    Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, engineering, and production teams to align raw material selection with product design and manufacturing requirements. Provide technical support in material-related challenges.
•    Material Innovation: Stay updated with the latest technological advancements and innovations in raw materials. Identify opportunities for material substitutions or improvements to optimize product performance and reduce costs.
•    Plant Assistance and Root Cause Investigation: In case of product failures or material-related issues, perform root cause analysis and work with suppliers to resolve issues. 
•    Support and collaborate with the R&D laboratory for implementation of most advanced Chemical / Physical techniques through new methodology development. 
•    Work effectively with R&D researchers, staff, technicians, and management of Bridgestone EMIA Technical Center, actively taking part in R&D cross-functional teams. 
•    Collaborate with Bridgestone Corporate Functions, Bridgestone America and Bridgestone Japan and Bridgestone Europe manufacturing plants.

 

 

Qualifications & Experience Required 
Education, Master, other certification:
M.Sc. in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Materials Science, Material Engineering, Chemical Engineering or any other related field of study is preferable.

•Strong understanding of material properties and material testing methods.
•Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
•Ability to interpret technical specifications, standards, and regulations related to raw materials. 
•Digital mindset.


Languages Skills:
•Fluency in written and spoken English.

•Goal-oriented, motivated, creative and collaborative. Able to work individually and as a part of a team. 
•Strong communications skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Ability to adapt communication style and approach to suit different audiences and situations, ensuring messages are understood and well-received.
