ABOUT THE ROLE

Job Purpose

Joining a dynamic and motivated compound development team, the R&D compound development engineer will lead design, develop and validate innovative compound solutions for the future Bridgestone sustainable mobility solutions.

The candidate will play a key role in the development of new passenger compound development through his/her solid knowledge on Material Science, Chemistry and industrial process technology, covering a wide range of activities from design thinking of compound prototype, laboratory investigation, compound validation on tire until industrialization stage.

Main Accountabilities

· Design, develop and validate new material and compound concept to fulfill main requirement of BSEMIA innovation journey through a deep dive mechanism understanding on tribology, fracture mechanics and proficient compound design approach. Capability to provide and promote proposals, solutions and original ideas along cross functional team-working with the Raw Material Development, Pattern Design Engineering, Tire Design, Manufacturing and Product Category Management teams

· Promote Innovation projects and fundamental mechanism investigation in materials science with Bridgestone Partners & Academia.

· Work effectively with technicians, R&D researchers and Management of Bridgestone EMIA Technical Center, actively taking part to R&D cross-functional teams. Provides his/her contribution to the preparation of Technical Meetings with the BSEMIA functions.

· Manages assigned tasks with high level of proficiency and autonomy.

· Collaborate with Bridgestone Corporate Functions, Bridgestone America and Bridgestone Japan and Bridgestone Europe manufacturing plants.

Job requirements

· Master degree and/or Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or any other related field of study. Preference will be given to candidates with background in:

o Material science (Polymer physics, Thermodynamics of organic matters, organic chemistry)

o Fracture mechanics, Tribology

o Compound and composite technology

o Non Newtonian mechanical fluids as nice to have

o Basic Simulation/Rubber compound mech (Ansys/Abaqus/FEM simulation)

o Chemical and physical analytics

· Goal-oriented, motivated, creative and collaborative. Able to work within teams with strong communications skills.

· Digital mindset: Ability to develop and/or apply new digital tools/software to change business or processes. Skills in machine learning, big data analytics & AI.

· Project management capability to manage complex activity in a multicultural environment

· Team working

· Design and strategic thinking

· Communication/presentation skills

· Visioning and leadership

· Fluency in written and spoken English
