Regulatory Compliance Chemical Engineer - Internship


Job Purpose

Moving from the Bridgestone Global Environmental Mission Statement and Long term Vision, the EMIA Environment function support the business unit to develop road map to create, keep and enhance environmental mindset and values in all phases of our value chain, working both with our employees and engaging our customers and suppliers.

Our function is one of the pillar of Sustainability Office and play a key role in the Global Environmental Working Group, Carbon Neutral Working Group bringing our expertise in setting global/regional environmental strategy and managing main environmental issues.

Under the supervision and coordination of the Head of BSEMIA Environment, she/he will support the team in:

  • assuring the compliance of our products and mobility solutions to the applicable Regulation and Car Manufacturer standards with regards to chemical substances content
  • assuring the compliance on chemicals management in our operations (Manufacturing, Retails, warehouse)

Main Accountabilities

  • Confirm Safety Data Sheets compliance vs. REACh regulation, Bridgestone Standards, Car Manufacturers (OEMs) requirements and other Chemicals Restriction Lists
  • Monitor REACH SVHC List, Authorisation List and Restriction Lists, GASDL updates and check compliance vs current line up.
  • Analyze and keep update OEMs requirements in terms of chemical substances (declarable / prohibited substances, communication, …) and check compliance vs current line up.
  • Support R&D, procurement function, digital Garage in understanding the needs and requirements related to main Chemicals Regulation (REACh registration process, SVHC list and requirements for SVHC substances in articles (communication along the supply chain and others), Restriction and Authorization list,– Global Automotive Declarable Substance List)
  • Support the discussion of with Suppliers to explain needed documents/steps to assure compliance
  • Support in the feedback  Quality Manual review and dialogue with Suppliers
  • Support SCIP notification process
  • Reply to OEMs questionnaires in terms of chemicals contents in provided tyres
  • Overview of IMDS submissions for each supply to OEMs and support for rejections
  • Support for Seveso/ADR compliance related topic


Working relationships

  • Functions located in Technical Center, mainly: Corporate H&S, Tyre & material development, Raw material Procurement, MTDS, System Engineering
  • BSEMIA Regional Functions (Retails and Logistic, CSR, Public Affairs and Communication, Sales) OEMs Key Account Managers, EHS windows in Plants/Retail/logistic
  • Functions involved in environmental chemicals evaluation and management in other poles (mainly Bridgestone America and Bridgestone Japan)
  • Corporate Functions (GBS)



  • University: degree in Engineering/Chemistry/Natural Science/Environmental Science


- Environmental/Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry

- Master on Management of Chemicals – REACH, CLP


Requested Technical skills

  • Very Good knowledge on REACH regulation and related processes (Registration process, Candidate List, Restriction list, Authorization List, SCIP notification, Safety Data Sheet Structure and contents)
  • Very Good knowledge of CLP regulation (specifically on classification and labelling)
  • Good knowledge of SCIP Database and SCIP notification
  • Knowledge of Seveso Directive and Hazardous Goods Transportation Regulations (e.g. ADR)


- Regulations on the management of chemicals (mainly REACH and CLP)

- Main EU Environmental Directive/Regulation (ETS Directive, IED Directive,”Seveso” Directive, , ADR basic rules, End of Life Vehicle Directive, VOC Directive)

- ISO14001-50001



Past experience in automotive/Tyre Sector

Knowledge of GADSL

Knowledge of IMDS platform

Knowledge of End of Life Vehicle Directive


  • Programming language & Tools:

- Office Package 


  • Language: fluent English; other languages are welcome
