Job Purpose and Content

Being one of the key elements of Bridgestone European R&D Centre, Digital Engineering has the mission to design, develop and scale-up digital tools and solutions supporting the digital transformation of our R&D processes and organization, with the objective to gain efficiency, reduce the time-to-market of our products, reduce the environmental footprint of our experimental activities, as well as to enable capturing new business opportunities.

As a member of the team, the Digital Engineering Platform Architect will have the following responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the virtualization of R&D processes in Bridgestone EMIA Technical Center. through the implementation of a Digital Engineering platform, which will provide a single point of access to all digital tools and solutions developed by the Digital Engineering team for the Technical Center Stakeholders and Users, supported by a compelling and homogeneous user experience.
  • Support R&D Engineers in the adoption and usage of the developed solutions and tools, made accessible through the platform, gathering feedback and requirements to be routed to the relevant Solution Lines.
  • Work in close contact with other teammates in charge of Digital Engineering Solutions (FE Analysts / Data Scientists / Digital Twin Engineers / Real-time and Vehicle Modelling Engineers), actively contributing to the execution of Digital Engineering mission and vision.

Responsibilities / Main Tasks

  • Design and evangelize solutions and best practices to improve performance and reliability of Digital Engineering Platform and underlying infrastructure.
  • Prototype and conduct system performance and functional analysis of new advanced architectures in comparison with existing paradigms.
  • Assist with platform production triage and root cause analysis when performance or availability issues arise.
  • Drive strategic projects in partnership with the other Digital Engineering Solution Lines to optimize performance and integrability of the Platform, and to facilitate / speed-up deployment of Digital Engineering applications on the Platform.
  • Work on a continuous basis with Digital Engineering team and other R&D engineering teams to optimize and characterize new components, functions, and architectures.
  • Innovate and develop tools and processes to repeatably, reliably, and efficiently deploy performant systems, applications, and platforms to IT production.
  • Define and communicate technology strategy and roadmaps to Digital Engineering teammates and other R&D Stakeholders, as well as to industry partners where relevant and applicable.
  • Focus on user experience continuous improvement.
  • Ensure integrability of the platform with other IT systems, where relevant and required.
  • Set the tone for the team (both Bridgestone employees and external consultants) involved in the platform development and applications deployment / integration, and mentor teammates re the specific domain of competence.
  • Cooperate with other Bridgestone Technical Centers (in Japan and US), as well as other business functions in Bridgestone EMIA Business Unit, to effectively share information, build common strategies and exploit synergies to speed-up R&D Digital Transformation process.

Competences & Skills


  • Passion for developing web platforms; possessing full-stack expertise.
  • Proven experience in developing web and/or native applications; possessing strong programming skills.
  • Proven experience in Performance Analysis and troubleshooting of production IT systems.
  • Domain expertise on public cloud, distributed system, service-oriented architectures (knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies is a plus).
  • Significant experience in defining, reviewing and implementing non-functional requirements (availability, reliability, etc.)
  • Proficiency in performance engineering design, implementing, and automating benchmarks.
  • Proven track record in conceiving of improvements, establishing a shared vision, getting stakeholder buy-in, and delivering impactful changes.
  • Proficient knowledge of two or more of the following programming languages:
    • Python.
    • JavaScript.
  • Proficient knowledge of web programming languages and frameworks, like:
    • HTML / CSS.
    • React.
    • Redux.
    • Java and PHP are a plus.
  • Knowledge of containerization / orchestration technologies like:
    • Kubernetes.
    • Docker.
  • Knowledge of DevOps/Automation practices:
    • Planning.
    • Code creation and Version Control.
    • Continuous integration.
    • Continuous deployment.
  • Knowledge of the major database platforms SQL / No-SQL (e.g. Postgres, MongoDB) from an application perspective.
  • Experience with automated testing tools, like:
    • Unit Testing Frameworks.
    • Front-end Robotic Testing.
  • Ability to manage and work on projects through Agile frameworks and related ceremonies.
  • IT Security awareness and IT Security principles understanding to be able to comply with BSEMIA IT Security policies in his/her daily job
  • Knowledge of Linux Operating systems is a plus, in particular:
    • Administration.
    • Networking.
    • Drives management.
    • Users/Groups and permissions management.
    • Installation and management of common services (e.g. SMB, NFS).
    • Installation and management of bundled software packages.
    • Installation and management of databases (e.g. Postgres, MongoDB).

  • Strong analytical skills, possessing a strong problem-solving attitude.
  • Proactive in standardizing and automating processes for a large-scale usage proposing cutting edge technologies.
  • Open-minded, independent attitude, with ability to create links with other departments and functions and willingness to provide rationales underlying his / her choices of specific solutions.
  • Results and customer-driven approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong command of English language.
  • Comfortable in working in a distributed team / environment.
  • Ability to prepare and execute both technical and executive presentations, being comfortable in presenting his / her argumentations in front of diverse and multicultural audiences.
  • Ability to carry on his / her tasks autonomously.
  • Proactivity in providing new ideas on how to apply his / her capabilities in Bridgestone environment.
  • Willingness to continuously learn (in a kaizen / continuous improvement approach).

Education / Experience

  • Master’s degree in computer science, electronic engineering, or other degrees that are part of the STEM curriculum.
  • 5-7 years in developing web and/or native applications.
  • At least 3 years of experience in Performance Analysis and troubleshooting of production IT systems.
  • Tire industry experience / knowledge is a plus.
