Joining a dynamic and motivated materials R&D team, the Lab Chemist will lead efforts to design, set up, develop and validate innovative testing for the future Bridgestone products and to perform advanced materials chemical characterization; covering a wide range of activities from laboratory-based chemical analysis, morphology analysis, multivariate analysis  & feasibility studies.

Specifically, the candidate will play a key role in the R&D lab through his/her solid knowledge will be primarily involved in planning and conducting experiments and advanced testing, analyzing results, either with a definite end use, for example to develop new methods, materials, processes or apparatus, or to broaden scientific understanding in general.

Core responsibilities:

  • Design, development and validate new methods and new testing machines providing proposals, solutions and original ideas. (60%)

Perform lab trials/advanced chemical testing (40%)


To perform successfully the above tasks the lab chemist will:

  • Apply advanced mathematical tools for data elaboration and interpretation: statistical evaluations, multivariate analysis.
  • Support and collaborate within the R&D laboratory for implementation of most advanced techniques/machines.
  • Work effectively with R&D researchers, staff, technicians, and management of Bridgestone Technical Center Europe, actively taking part to R&D cross-functional teams
  • Collaborate with Bridgestone Corporate Functions, Bridgestone America, Bridgestone Japan and Bridgestone Europe manufacturing plants.
  • Work and interact with Bridgestone external partners, such as academia, lab equipment providers and material suppliers.

Job requirements:

  • Master degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, or other related field of academic study .

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:
Advanced analytical chemistry testing (HPLCMS; Hyphenated TGA-IR-GCMS; NMR) coupled with working knowledge of mathematical tools (chemometric / multivariate analysis and related software e.g.: MATLAB, R, CAT, SIMCA)  

  • Goal-oriented, motivated, creative and collaborative. Able to work within heterogenous teams with strong communications skills.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office package and robust data analysis skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
