Job Purpose

Bridgestone Europe is looking for a Corporate Communications Leader to join the South African office (BSAF).  The purpose of the role is to support the full Bridgestone Southern Africa business (+/- 2000 employees) by leading all external communication and public affairs, responding in times of need with crisis communication and leading the corporate communications team that are responsible for Corporate and Brand PR, internal communication and employee engagement.



The ideal candidate:
We're looking for a seasoned corporate communications professional to help grow Bridgestone’s brands and influence across Southern Africa. In this role you'll be crafting our narrative, shaping our responses to industry events and trends, providing strategic input to executives on a range of industry and public relations topics.

The PR Specialist – responsible for PR, internal communications & employee engagement - reports up to this role as well as agency management. The ideal candidate is an agile leader, who will work closely with senior leadership, Sales & Marketing teams, customers and partners to orchestrate the growth in visibility of our brands and company.

Candidates will need to demonstrate their ability to build thought leadership programs and achieve cohesion and consistency in messaging and tone of voice across channels. Candidates with extensive communications experience in FMCG, Automotive or Electronics industries who have operated across verticals and regions will be well placed for this position.


We are looking for a team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment that requires an agile, entrepreneurial, hands-on approach.  The ideal candidate is excited by the prospect of supporting the People Function in making Bridgestone a great place to work.  They are equally adept at co-ordinating and delivering Events as they are at leading Public Speaking engagements. 

Bridgestone Southern Africa has Headquarters in Waterfall Park, Midrand and a manufacturing plant in Brits.  The successful candidate will support both sites in person and our regional offices remotely. The role reports to the Head of Marketing who is based in Midrand.





  • Degree level expected: Bachelor degree in Business, Public Relations, Communication or Marketing
  • Experienced in multinational organization and environment within the Automotive or FMCG industry is preferred
  • Cross Africa experience beneficial but not mandatory
  • Level: Manager
  • Min 5 years’ experience in a leadership role responsible for corporate communication, public affairs or external relations
  • Experience in Event Management, Employee Engagement, Ambassador Management beneficial






Required capabilities


  • Able to demonstrate Bridgestone’s behavioural expectations: Agility, Courage, Ownership, Teamwork, Flexibility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluent in English.  Public Speaking often required.
  • Learning Agility: actively identifies new areas for learning, learns from experience and is comfortable with complexity and ambiguity
  • Stakeholder Management:  C-Suite executives, Government liaison, Unions, Customers, Agency partners, Brand Managers, Multi-functional team members
  • Strong Multi-Tasker:  The role is a support function to the Executive Team, the  Sales & Marketing Team and the People (HR) department.  The work varies from high level, confidential Global projects, to this month’s employee engagement activation and everything in between.
