Job Purpose
You will plan and coordinate all production related activities of the Brits plant taking into consideration the requirement from the market, the capacity of the production environment and the business objectives of the plant. The Production Planning Manager will issue instruction to operational staff based on a the finite capacity and production plan as agreed to and to report on the execution and completion of the agreed plan and facilitate the warehousing of finished product
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all safety measures are adhered to and create a safe working environment
- Create a rolling 3 month production plan by size for all production categories ( Plant ticket for PSR, LTR, TBR & RFT ) as required by LSCM (Planning department / Sales and Marketing)
- To plan, direct and coordinate the ( Plant ticket ) to ensure full and efficient utilization of the manufacturing equipment to achieve the production plan
- Ensure component manufacturing, building and curing are aligned to achieve the production levels as agreed in the Plant ticket.
- Measure and assess production and warehouse execution and distribute relevant information to key personnel on a daily basis
- Re-align the production plan should unforeseen circumstances cause disruptions and deviations from the original plan, and communicate changes to key personnel.
- Control the levels of tyre components on the floor and ensure that the material flow through the factory is adequate to achieve daily production requirements in accordance with the ticket.
- Coordinate the end-of-run production (balance off) in accordance with the published procedures to minimise waste as a result of unused components.
- Develop and direct action plans to control non-moving material before deterioration to waste status occurs
- Follow Good Management Practices (Plan, organise, lead & control) to develop the Scheduling Department into a cohesive team that sustains consistent high levels of performance.
- Ensure that all subordinates are trained and developed in accordance with the content of the relevant job descriptions and that skill levels promote high levels of productivity.
- Establish and coordinate production volumes during planning rounds as required during budget and mid-term planning (MTP)
- Plan and control the shutdown and start up activities of the plant during public holidays and year end shutdowns

Qualifications & Experience Required
Education, Master, other certification:
- Degree or Diploma in Production Management / Industrial Engineering / Logistics
- MS Office literate M Excel priority
Experience (years):
- 5-8 years’ experience in Tyre manufacturing
- Minimum of 5 years management experience in tyre manufacturing.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the schedule of Tyre manufacturing will be an advantage
Technical Skills:
- Good and workable knowledge of processes in component and tyre manufacturing in all departments of the Brits Plant.
- Expert knowledge of planning and control methodologies and techniques within the tyre manufacturing arena.
- Strong analytical skills to comprehend complex inter-relationships between capacity and demand, performing “what-if” analysis and defining solutions.
- Well-developed communication skills (written and verbal) to ensure optimal flow of information to the manufacturing units of the plant, Planning and sales departments or any third party regarding the execution of the monthly production plan (achievements, concerns, deviations)
- Technical knowledge, ability and skills regarding planning subject matter like MRP, rough-cut capacity planning and finite scheduling.
- Ability to take cognisance of and to meet deadlines and handle diverse and complex tasks simultaneously using prioritisation techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required to explain, discuss complex situations to a diverse audience.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and motivation skills required to deal with external parties (Planning, Sales etc) as well as internal parties (Heads of departments, senior management)
- Advanced MS Office skills, especially MS Excel for analysis and calculation of complex capacity vs. demand calculations. MS Word/PowerPoint for reporting and presenting analysis plans and results.
- Basic SAP knowledge to interrogate material, production and inventory knowledge.
